Heavenly birdsong …
After their five fantastic river themed music compilations, our friends over at Caught By the River have to decided search out birdsongs and on Wednesday 27th January the first ‘Birdsong’ compilation complied by British Sea Power’s Martin Noble will be available to download to all their members / subscribers.

In addition to this, each download will come with a sleeve designed by Matt ‘bird of the week’ Sewell. For each comp Matt will paint a different species of bird to grace the cover. That’s the first one you can see at the top of this post.
To help them launch it, British Sea Power have very kindly given them a song to share with you. It’s “The Great Skua (Plover demo)” and the version is exclusive to Caught by the River. You can hear how the song eventually sounded on their album Do You Like Rock Music.

Doves get nominated for best British band at Brits
Respect & much love to Doves for getting a Brit award nomination for best British band at the Brits. If you saw them on tour last year or were lucky enough to see them at the electric proms or their homecoming gig in Manchester at Christmas then I think you’ll probably agree the band have matured in to a truly great band.
Having gone about their business over the last 12 years as Doves, 20 including their days as SubSub, without bullshit or bravado they’ve had 2 number 1 records (there would have been 3 if they hadn’t been pipped to the post by 4 sales of a Lady GaGa album!), & their debut album ‘Lost Souls’ was mercury nominated.
There’s some great footage here on youtube from their performance at last years electric proms where they performed with the Bulgarian London Choir. If you already love the band this will remind you exactly why you fell in love with them & if you weren’t sure this should tip you in favor & if you don’t at all what you doing reading this?

Edwyn Collins drawings exhibited
Following a life-threatening brain haemorrhage in 2005, Collins spent time learning to draw again as part of his recovery. Rediscovering his love of art and childhood fascination with ornithology, since October 2005 he has drawn a bird every day, titled and dated, mapping his recovery. This series of drawings illustrates the journey Collins has taken over the past few years. Their fragility and beauty diarise his recovery and instantly connect with all visitors, not just those who have experienced the effects of illness.
