A Two-time ARIA Award-winning act in their native Australia, but still a bit of a undiscovered gem over here in the UK, Mildlife have today announced details of ‘Yourself’, the latest single to be previewed from their forthcoming, much-anticipated third studio LP Chorus, released on March 1st.
With tastemakers of the calibre of DJ Harvey, David Holmes, Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy, Cerys Matthews, Ashley Beedle and Gilles Peterson already on board and a European summer dancefloor smash under their belts courtesy of the Prins Thomas remix of ‘Return to Centaurus’, the Melbourne based band have today also announced a number of UK / EU dates in May / June.
In many ways, ‘Yourself’ embodies the strides and creative bounds that the four-piece have made on their forthcoming third full-length outing, a strikingly vocal-forward, slinky jam about meaningful self-acceptance and the joy to be found in shared purpose, ranking instantly amongst the most inspiriting and luminous of Mildlife tracks to date.
On the track, the band’s Kevin McDowell said:
“Yourself is emotionally very positive, uplifting and bright; especially the chorus has this uplifting ascension in the chords. I remember sitting on that and feeling like we were all happy. I think we’d maybe matured to the point where these are the kind of brighter sounds that we probably should embrace just out of a sense of freshness, and even just for our own curiosity.”

‘Yourself’ is the final single to be lifted from the forthcoming Chorus, following the previously released ‘Musica’ and ‘Return to Centaurus’, the near-ten minute-long trip that marked the band’s first new material since the release of their lauded 2020 second LP Automatic. In the intervening period, Mildlife have grown into one of Australia’s most critically acclaimed and widely beloved acts, carving out a niche wholly of their own – one that traverses jazz, dance, prog and psychedelic music into a curiously singular, entirely entrancing and moveable amalgam.
Alongside the release comes news of a run of shows in the UK / EU in early summer. After having performed over 100 shows across 23 different countries in the past few years, the much-lauded Mildlife live show has become the origin point for much of Chorus, tracks coalescing out of searching improvisational passages and euphoric extended encores.
