Pan Amsterdam, aka Leron Thomas, who released his latest album, Confines, in May of this year on Heavenly Recordings has announced details of ‘Kimchi’, a brand new, stand-alone single.
A collaboration with French DJ/producer GUTS, the pair got together with the joint desire to release the tension and create something ‘pure and blissful’. The result is just that – a mellow slide of a bass driven hip hop groove and a vocal that’s as welcoming as being wrapped into a rug on an autumn night. This kimchi is perfect soul food.

Leron said of the track:
“My last project was great and heavy so I felt like being a bit lighter if you want me to be honest. Tension and release I guess, this is also the 5-year anniversary of ‘Carrot Cake’ with Guts on the beat. So here’s a hat tip to that as well from GUTS and I.”
Having last completed a short U.K. tour in the summer of this year, which included a SOLD OUT show at London’s Jazz Café, Pan Amsterdam returns this November for a run of shows, including a Pitchfork Festival appearance.

“His album ‘Confines’ album sees Pan Amsterdam deliver a richly diverse, yet coherent album of lyrically engaging songwriting mixed with idiosyncratic and offbeat imagery, all underpinned by a strong and deep melodic centre.”

“The twelve-track LP serves as a celebration of Thomas’s creative principles, flexing many a musical muscle in the process. The composition of its songs is highly George Clinton-inspired, in that they flow between an otherworldly, abstract state and one of thoughtful, sociopolitical commentary. All the while, Thomas proudly sticks his middle finger up at all the snobbish voices from his past who told him to ‘stay in the confines’.”
– Clash Magazine ★★★★ –
“One of the most original, exciting records you’ll hear this year… there are forays into hip-hop, jazz, soul and pop on ‘Confines,’ with Thomas melancholic muted trumpet always making it’s presence felt.”
– Music OMH ★★★★ –
“An adventurous hip-hop record weaving gospel, synth soundscapes, jazz, drowsy art-rock into its kaleidoscopic sound.”
-The New Cue –
“Musically it goes on a stylistic rampage that brings electronica, indie, synthpop and of course jazz via his rich trumpet sound to the hip-hop template. It’s musical freedom incarnate, with Thomas’ wordplay proving poignant at times and hilarious at others, as he paints vivid portraits of the dozens of weird and wonderful people he’s crossed paths with.”
