Katy has just shared a new single from her upcoming debut album ‘Return‘, the track is called ‘Something Real’. The stunning video is directed by the acclaimed Jamie Thraves who has both produced videos for the likes of Radiohead & Coldplay and directed a number of celebrated full-length features including the award winning Treacle Jr in 2010.

Talking about the video, Jamie said:

Had a blast doing the video, I think it’s gonna be great, we got so many interesting fun shots. I think you’re gonna see a side of Katy you’ve not seen before. Wanted her to come across as a big star, which she is, so that was my aim, to bring out her confidence as a performer. Think she pushed herself on this one and it shows.

Katy added:

For the Something Real video I had the opportunity to work with the brilliant director Jamie Thraves and DOP Catherine Derry. We filmed the video all around Bristol over 2 days and had Teddy the beautiful whippet as a special guest ( thanks Milly and Bella). Thanks to my lovely band and Molly shield for your appearances in the vid and shout out to Tom Jacobs and Louis Catlett for being sweet angels. Enjoy the vid!

The release also features a field-recording version of Something Real which was recorded over the summer and is also included on an exclusive bonus CD / DL of acoustic field-recordings of tracks from her debut album available on all D2C orders and purchases from independent retailers of the album, Return.

Talking about the field recordings, Katy said:

Over lockdown I was trying to figure out something I could do music-wise that would be fun and interesting. My friend Joe Jones who is a recording engineer has an amazing tape recording machine called a Nagra, which we used to record one of the songs on Return, called Waiting For The Day. The best thing about the Nagra is that it’s portable, meaning we could record anywhere we liked. So I got in touch with Joe and chose some beautiful, rural locations around Bristol (Goat Gully, Leigh Woods, and my favourite pub The Old England) to record songs from the album as well as a few new songs. It was such a fun couple of days. My friends Marie and Ben documented the experience on video too.
