Written on the road during their U.S. tour earlier this year, Revival Season’s standalone single ‘Dim Sum’ speaks to the importance of spiritual and soulful sustenance. A reaffirmation of the fertile creative relationship showcased on the Atlanta, Georgia duo’s debut record Golden Age Of Self Snitching (Heavenly, February 2024), ‘Dim Sum’ sees rapper Brandon ‘BEZ’ (B Easy) Evans’ effortless bars swirled through the salty-sweet elixir of Jonah Swilley’s busted-speaker, glitching-computer beats — resulting in a parcel that is at once tender and firm to the bite.
“The title is referencing the concept of ‘touching the heart’ [the literal translation of the word dim sum from Cantonese] rather than satisfying hunger”, reflects Swilley, “and we hope to do that with this warm, feel good record” — a two-and a half minute masterclass in mutual nourishment which sustains not only its creators, but any lucky ears it lands on too.

“Swilley’s production serves as the perfect canvas for Bez’s lyrical fire, with Swilley crafting beats around Bez’s vocals, instead of the other way around. This synergy elevates The Golden Age of Self-Snitching beyond a mere collection of songs, resulting in a cohesive and immersive listening experience.”

“The duo’s debut Golden Age of Self Snitching exists in its own rich sonic realm, however, pairing layered headphone-worthy production with emcee Brandon “Bez” Evans’ ferocious rapid-fire rhymes. Each song here seems to move at a frantic pace, loops of guitar and synths wrapping around Evans’ mesmerizing verses, each brief but potent banger made for live performances and nights of debauchery.”

“Being the brainchild of BEZ and Jonah Swilley, Revival Season put a spotlight on jokesters who claim they’re greater than reality on Golden Age of Self Snitching. They succeed in blending southern rap with a more rock sound than like Beastie Boys’ Paul Boutique and less like Linkin Park. Influences of Outkast and Cee-lo can be heard throughout the album and Revival Season does a good just of carrying the torch. ”

“An endlessly fun album with plenty on its mind, ‘The Golden Age Of Self-Snitching’ is an accomplished debut whose complex genre-fluidity is so elegant you’ll barely notice it. In fact, it’ll likely set your pulse racing too fast to think about it anyway.”
