This spring sees Revival Season follow-up The Golden Age of Self Snitching with a five track mixtape. ‘Formless’ sees Swilley and Bez dive deeper and deeper into their sound. From grimy garage rock riffs to clipped mutant drum tracks, the result, frankly, is anything but Formless.

The brainchild of Atlanta, GA-based producer Jonah Swilley (a founding member of Mattiel and also known for his production work with Night Beats) and Columbus, GA rapper Brandon ‘Bez’ Evans. Today the duo share their new single ‘8’3’ and an accompanying video. The new track arrives alongside news of a mixtape, Formless which is out for release on May 16.

Revival Season say about the single:

“This is a filthy smudge of a garage rock riff that drives hard against a rhythm track that sounds stoned to say the least – “8’3” is rock’n’roll music fed into an ultrasonic Funkadelic blender; heavy duty hip-hop boiled back down to some of modern music’s most basic, primal ingredients. A song to make you JUMP.”

The new music follows recent standalone singles, the politically-charged ‘White House Black‘ – which landed alongside last November’s U.S. election – and ‘Dim Sum‘ as well as the duo’s 2024 debut album, ‘Golden Age Of Self Snitching’ which found acclaim at Consequence (#9 in their Best Rap Albums of 2024, “Barry White” was #67 in their 200 Best Songs of 2024), Brooklyn Vegan, CLASH, the CABBAGES newsletter and more.

Revival Season has built a name for themselves due to their potent chemistry which combines Swilley’s busted-speaker, gut-punch beats and Bez’s laser-focused bars. After first switching on their stereo back in 2022, Revival Season has made solid music that slides along grooves that crank. A modern take on G funk (the G standing for Georgia).
